Pettyjohn to hold coffee chat Dec. 18
Sen. Brian Pettyjohn, R-Georgetown, will hold his final constituent coffee of 2024 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Plantation Lakes Community Center, 29787 Plantation Lakes Blvd., Millsboro.

Dewey Beach Board of Adjustment to meet
The Dewey Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Dewey Beach Life-Saving Station.
The group will consider four requests from The Starboard.
Under consideration are: a variance request to convert the permanent outdoor tent approved in the board’s May 5, 2023 written decision to a weather-resistant pavilion structure with fire-suppression sprinklers; a request for variance or special exception to expand the covered outdoor dining area authorized in the board’s May 5, 2023 written decision from 1,200 square feet with nine dining tables to 1,579 square feet of covered outdoor dining area with 11 dining tables; a request for a variance or special exception to continue the relief from the off-street parking requirement previously granted by the board; and a request for relief from code to permit an expansion or addition to a nonconforming restaurant or outside service area to permit the construction of a 1,579-square-foot pavilion. Lewes beach group cancels meeting
The Lewes Johnnie Walker Beach Subcommittee has canceled its meeting set for Thursday, Dec. 19.
The city’s African American Heritage Commission also will not meet this month.

Special Rehoboth meeting set Dec. 19
Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 19, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
The agenda calls for an in-person, public interview with city solicitor candidate Gregory A. Morris, attorney at law with Liguori & Morris.
The meeting may also include an executive session for the purpose of discussing the qualifications of individual candidates for employment as the in-house city solicitor.

Rehoboth meeting slated for Dec. 20
Rehoboth Beach commissioners will meet at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
The agenda calls for a possible vote on a request to form a regional wastewater partnership, continued discussion on possibly expanding the paid parking season, consideration of appointments to the town mixed-use task force, and consideration of a resolution supporting a public-private partnership that would seek to retain Clear Space Theatre Company in the city.

Multiple myeloma group to meet Dec. 21
The Delaware Multiple Myeloma Support Group meets every third Saturday of the month, with occasional exceptions. Meetings are open to anyone who has multiple myeloma or cares for someone who does. Elks Hoop Shoot set Jan. 12
Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 will hold its annual Hoop Shoot at 9 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Factory Sports complex near Lewes.
The Hoop Shoot is a free-throw contest for boys and girls in three age groups – 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. The shooters who make the most of 25 attempts are declared winners. Winners have the opportunity to advance to the Elks district, regional, state and national competitions. Basketballs will be awarded to winners of each group.

Winter soccer academy to start Jan. 12
Registration for the Sussex Academy–R1S Winter Soccer Academy is now open.
The winter skills camp is open to any player from 6 to 12 years of age. Participants will enhance their skills and knowledge of the game in a dynamic and engaging environment.
The Sussex Academy-R1S Winter Soccer Academy focuses on key areas of development, including defending principles, dribbling and ball manipulation, shooting and finishing techniques, and small-sided play to improve decision-making and teamwork.
Whether players are new to soccer or experienced, the academy offers an opportunity for all skill and experience levels to grow and thrive.
Families registering multiple players also receive a discount, making it even easier to join in the fun and development this winter season.
The academy will run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Sundays, Jan. 12 through Feb. 16 at Sussex Academy, 21150 Airport Road, Georgetown.

‘The Alchemist’ book club discussion set Jan. 27
HealTree’s book club will meet for a discussion of “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, at 1632 Savannah Road, Suite 10, Lewes. The community-based book club is focused on personal development and meaningful connection. In “The Alchemist,” an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure. His journey teaches readers about the essential wisdom of listening to one’s heart, recognizing opportunity and learning to read the omens strewn along life's path. The book club is peer-led by Zach Graboyes, who finds peace in participating in mindful meditation practices.
