Norman S. Whaley Jr., Bayhealth retiree

Norman S. Whaley Jr., 78, of Georgetown, passed away with his wife by his side Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown.

Norman was born Nov. 10, 1945, in Milford, son of the late Norman S. Whaley Sr. and Helen (Massey) Whaley. He was a graduate of Georgetown High School. Norman retired from Bayhealth Hospital in Milford after 32 ½ years of service.

Norman will be remembered for his love of making others laugh, and spending time with his family and friends at any family gathering. He was a devoted employee and will be missed by his work family. Norman will also be missed by his family at Harrison Senior Living, where he was a resident for the last two and a half years.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lee Whaley; and a brother-in-law, Eddie Hill. Norman is survived by the love of his life and best friend of 58 years, Anna Jane (Hill) Whaley; a sister, Barbara Fleetwood; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hitchens (Charlie); a brother-in-law, Victor Hill III; two nieces, Cheryl Evans (Davis) and Angel Graham (Dave), and their two children Brody and Ellie; and two nephews, Kevin Hill (Elizabeth), and their daughter Katie, and Christopher Hitchens (Trista), and their three children Grayson, Brinley and Kinsley.  Norman is also survived by a longtime and devoted friend, Pat Payne; goddaughter, Dara Amber Donaway; and numerous friends.  

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the love and care provided to Norman over the last few years by the staff at Harrison Senior Living.  

A service to celebrate Norman’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 27, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where friends and family may gather after 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Norman’s memory to Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 77, Georgetown, DE 19947.
