Ocean Travel celebrates 25 years in Rehoboth Beach

October 6, 2010

Ocean Travel in Rehoboth Beach is celebrating its 25th year serving southern Delaware.

“We want to continue to have wonderful clients who support us,” said founder Genevieve Wilson, a cruise aficionado.

For clients, Wilson said, a Disney cruise or vacation package is always a favorite. Her own favorite cruise was aboard Corinthian II, a small 100-person ship that sailed from Argentina to the Antarctic Peninsula, stopping in the Falkland Islands and South Georgia Island along the way.

For a first-time cruisegoer, Wilson recommends seven nights with Royal Caribbean, a trip that gives vacationers the ability to visit three locations with the convenience of having to unpack only once.

In the early years of Ocean Travel, Wilson said, most customers simply needed to buy airline tickets, but the accessibility of the internet has led most air travelers to book flights on their own. Wilson said many clients will search the internet for ideas about their trip but ultimately book with her agency.

Ocean Travel has maintained a loyal following of local clients over the years. With new ports in Baltimore and Cape Liberty, N.J., many vacationers are opting for cruises to avoid dealing with heightened security for national and international travel.

Travel planner Ulrich Schmiedhold, who specializes in independent excursions for customers with a more a specific agenda, said that despite harsh economic times, quality travel agencies have survived.

Wilson said customers are currently looking ahead and planning holiday trips to Mexico.
