Ocean View Deli and Family Restaurant to change hands May 1

Ending a labor of love for owners John and Sherri Walker, who have served thousands of hungry locals and beach visitors for the past 33 years, the Ocean View Deli and Family Restaurant at 42 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View, will change hands effective Monday, May 1.

"We believe our customers kept coming back because our menu was based on old  family recipes, Pennsylvania Dutch recipes and just plain home cooking. When the food is good, friends get together. We are thrilled to have had so many wonderful customers throughout the years. We thank you very much for your patronage. We also want to thank our restaurant family who worked tirelessly to make our guests' dining experience memorable. We will retire at the end of April 2023, and plan to travel and see the country,” said Sherri Walker.

While a change of ownership often means major changes to the menu or the restaurant's decor, new owner Roger Schwandtner of Dagsboro-based Artisan Restaurant Development said, "After being in the restaurant business for 40-plus years and owning restaurants around the country for the past 20 years, I'm thrilled to finally own a restaurant close to home. It is especially gratifying when taking over the operation of such an iconic and popular property like the Ocean View Restaurant. Although we will be making a few minor improvements, our goal is to continue John and Sherri's legacy, including their traditional and classic menu items."

All are welcome to visit for breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday.

Schwandtner, a restaurant industry veteran for over 40 years, currently owns a Chili's franchise in Fort Bliss, Texas, and is a partner in four additional restaurants located in BWI Airport and El Paso, Texas.
