An Ocean View man faces a felony driving under the influence charge and other drug charges after police say they found him asleep Dec. 8 in the parking lot of a Rehoboth Beach Wawa.
A Delaware State Police trooper on patrol at 1:02 a.m. spotted a Chevrolet Express van parked at a gas pump at the Wawa on Veterans Way, police said, and the trooper found Ian McIntyre, 44, who appeared to be asleep, in the driver’s seat with the van running.
After contacting McIntyre, police said the trooper observed signs of impairment and conducted standardized field sobriety tests. Police said a straw with a white powdery substance was in plain view on the driver’s floorboard, and police also found 139 bags containing about .973 grams of heroin, a small plastic bag containing approximately 1.36 grams of methamphetamine, a psilocybin mushroom bar weighing approximately 8.49 grams, and various drug paraphernalia.
McIntyre was taken to Troop 7, where a computer check showed that he had been convicted of DUI on two different occasions. He was charged with felony third DUI, felony manufacture/deliver/possession with intent to deliver controlled substance, two counts of possess/consume a controlled or counterfeit substance, and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
McIntyre was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $11,000 secured bond.
