Oil painting workshop with Bill Patterson set May 7-8

Milton Arts Guild to host
April 21, 2019

Milton Arts Guild will present a workshop, Oil Painting - Basics and Beyond, with instructor Bill Patterson, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, May 7 and 8, at 310 Walnut St., Milton.

This workshop is designed for beginner and intermediate-level artists. Participants will develop a painting from photographs. Attendees will be introduced to the ways that artists see and how that determines the style of a painting. Exploring themes and variation, pictorial balance, passage, mood, color hues, value and handling paint, Patterson breaks down the basics and gets students working with oils in both value studies and full-color painting. The supply list will be provided upon registration.

The fee is $110 for MAG members and $120 for nonmembers. Class size will be limited to 10, so registration is recommended. To register, go to www.miltonartsguild.org or contact Lou Ann Miller at 717-354-6304 or lamiller49@gmail.com.

Patterson is a noted Delaware artist who has received numerous awards and commissions for his work. It’s not unusual to see him around Sussex County, camera and paint brushes in hand, scouting his next artistic endeavor. Patterson received formal training from Rowan University, University of the Arts and Nelson Shank’s Studio Incamminati. He holds a bachelor’s degree in art education and a master’s degree in teaching. He loves to impart knowledge to others, especially when they have that "aha moment" and realize "I get this." He has mentored many students and adults who have become art educators, full-time artists and hobbyists in oil painting.
