Oliver E. Allen, proud Army veteran
Oliver E. Allen passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, from a heart attack, just nine days short of his 78th birthday. He was born Dec. 12, 1946, the firstborn to the late James Allen and Beatrice Miller Allen, and the oldest of 12 siblings.
Oliver graduated in 1965 from William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves from August 1965 until August 1972.
Oliver worked several jobs in Delaware during the '70s and '80s, including Indian River Power Plant, NCR in Millsboro, and Draper King Cole in Milton.
Oliver moved to Dayton, Ohio, in the mid-’90s and worked as a metro bus driver at RTA City Transit from 1996 until 2009. He then retired to his hometown, Rehoboth Beach, in 2009.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Carl “Keith” Allen and Carlton “Snoop” Allen; and sisters, Beverly “Bev” Hall and Linda Allen Ray; and goddaughter, Stacy A. Tucker.
Oliver is survived by his siblings, Mary (Allen) DeSheilds (Freddie) of Camden, N.J., Bernadette Allen of Rehoboth Beach, Johnny L. Allen (Michelle) of Georgetown, Steven D. Allen of Georgetown, Orlando B. Allen (Debra) of West Grove, Pa., Melinda (Allen) Yeaks (William II) of Rehoboth Beach, and Sharon D. Allen of Milford; two special cousins, Gerald Allen and Hampton “Hamp” Turner; and two best friends, Martinez “Marty” Lyons and William “Billy” Piner, both of Dayton, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services were private.
A Celebration of Oliver’s Life is planned for spring 2025.
