Overfalls dedicates restored Monomoy boat

September 16, 2015

The Overfalls Foundation community was on hand Sept. 4 for the official dedication of the restored Monomoy boat.

Since 2011, a small group of volunteers have slowly restored the 26-foot life boat, first in the former brush factory that is now RISE on Kings Highway and then in the bowels of the decaying former Lewes power station on Schley Avenue. The thousands of hours of hard work finally paid off Sept. 1, as the boat was moved to its permanent home next to the Lightship Overfalls at Canalfront Park in Lewes.

The Overfalls group plans to test the vessel in the water, but for now the organization's remarkable revitalization sits on display just a few hundred feet from the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal.
