Overfalls Foundation seeks board applications by Aug. 19

June 9, 2024

The Overfalls Foundation is seeking volunteers to be nominated in September and elected in October to serve on its board of directors.

The board is actively responsible for the operation and preservation of the Lightship Overfalls (LV-118) located in Lewes Canalfront Park.

The Overfalls board of directors presently comprises 13 volunteers who each serve three-year terms. Each director can serve a second consecutive three-year term, but must stand down for at least one year after the second term. In 2024, six new board member positions are available. Organizers are looking to fill those vacancies to start the 2024-25 board year immediately following the elections in mid-October.

The board of directors meets once each month for two hours. Current board responsibilities are divided into various roles. Ideal candidates are energetic and proactive individuals interested in helping to fulfill the Overfalls Foundation mission in the following areas: fundraising; marketing (advertising); communications (public print, broadcast media, social media); facilities management (including ship and grounds maintenance); community outreach; president; vice president; and treasurer.

Board members are required to be or become members in good standing.

Those interesting in joining this dynamic board and contributing to the ongoing success of the Lightship Overfalls (LV-118) preservation and museum operations must contact Dave Beck, nominating committee chair, at vpresident@overfalls.org or 703-314-0425 no later than Monday, Aug. 19.
