Patricia Ann Dixon, Catholic educator
Patricia Ann (Fanning) Dixon passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born March 13, 1947, in The Bronx, N.Y., Pat was the cherished daughter of Harold and Doris Fanning, and sister to Stephen Fanning. She spent her formative years in Bergenfield, N.J., and graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy before attending Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, N.Y.
Pat married the love of her life, Robert J. Dixon, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. Following their wedding, Pat and Bob relocated to Germany, where Bob served in the Air Force. They eventually made their home in Morristown, N.J., where they raised their three children. Pat was a beloved mother to Kerry Harper (Dixon), Robert Dixon Jr., and Tammy Shank (Dixon), and mother-in-law to Jonathan Harper. She cherished every moment she spent with her grandchildren, Kathryn Harper, Ryan Harper, Dominic Shank and Keegan Shank.
Pat dedicated her life to Catholic education, serving as a teacher and later as a principal in the Diocese of Paterson after earning her graduate degree from Seton Hall University. Her passion for nurturing young minds was evident in her 25-year career, which left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. She later brought her warmth and guidance to Drew University and Fairleigh Dickinson University as a campus minister, guiding the spiritual journey of countless college students.
After retiring in 2008, Pat and Bob moved to Lewes, where they enjoyed a peaceful and fulfilling life in the coastal community. Pat enjoyed traveling, reading, attending local events, and appreciating the serene beauty of the Delaware beaches.
Family was the cornerstone of Pat’s life. She found joy in supporting her children and grandchildren by attending their sporting events, school concerts, or celebrating their milestones. Her unwavering love and encouragement will forever be remembered by those who knew her.
Pat was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Tammy Shank; and her parents, Harold and Doris Fanning. Her legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Pat’s life will be held in her honor. Details will be shared by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia’s memory can be made to a Catholic education fund or charity of choice.
Patricia’s life was a testament to love, faith, and dedication, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
