Pauline E. Hughes, loved by many

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Pauline E. Hughes, born Jan. 20, 1944, who peacefully departed from this world Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023. Pauline was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She was known for her wit, kindness, strong work ethic, and ability to love unconditionally. Born and raised in Georgetown, to Rowland and Sallie Scott, she was a proud graduate of Georgetown High School, excelling in field hockey and cheerleading. After high school, Pauline and her husband of 61 years, Randy Hughes, started their family. Over the years, Pauline provided for her family through various roles, including managerial positions at Bonanza Restaurant in Rehoboth, Uncle Willie’s in Seaford, and, finally, with Sussex County Government. Her journey touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.

An enthusiastic supporter of her children and grandchildren, Pauline attended countless band concerts, parades, football games, baseball games, and wrestling matches. Among the many gifts Pauline shared with her family, the greatest of these was her dedication to family, loyalty, and the value of possessing a strong work ethic. Her unwavering support will always be remembered and cherished by her family.

Pauline is survived by her husband of 61 years, Randy Hughes; her son, R.L. Hughes (Stephanie) and granddaughters Julie Hughes and Katie Hill (Trent); daughter, Ronda Douglas (Kevin) and grandson Scott Myers (Sarah); daughter, Paula Wolford, granddaughters Tatum and Tami, and grandson Troy (Brenna); 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition, Pauline is survived by her brothers, Rowland D. Scott (Helen) and James D. Scott; numerous nieces and nephews, siblings, Sara Bryan, Betty Walker and Daniel Scott; and her grandson, Joshua Myers, predeceased Pauline.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 30, at Union Cemetery, Georgetown, to celebrate Pauline's life.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Delaware Hospice for their outstanding care of Pauline.
