Peaches and yoga at Bennett Orchards

August 24, 2024

The Yoga Studio in Rehoboth Beach accomplished a first on Aug. 15 – a yoga session in Bennett Orchards. In fact, it was the first event of its sort ever held at the orchard between Dagsboro and Frankford.

With the sun setting over the peach trees, a large group of enthusiasts followed the directions of instructor Bladen Potter. After the session, participants headed out among the fruit-laden trees to pick some Salena peaches to take home.

Henry Bennett, co-owner of the orchards, said this has been one of the best peach crops in years, and in a big way thanks to a pilot wind machine project. He said the machines were turned on for five nights this past spring to keep air circulating and make sure the orchard temperature stayed above freezing during the all-important budding cycle.

The family has deep roots in Sussex County soil, with the sixth generation now involved in the business. Bennett sells peaches and blueberries (in season) at farmers markets and local stores, and also offers pick-your-own.
