Pedestrian dies in Bethany crash
An 89-year-old woman died May 19 after being struck by a vehicle while walking in a Walgreens parking lot near Route 1 in Bethany Beach.
The Bethany Beach woman was walking at 10:15 a.m. past a parking space when an 82-year-old woman from Bowie, Md., driving a Hyundai Tuscon, made a sharp turn into the parking spot and struck the victim with the front of the vehicle, said Sgt. India Sturgis of the Delaware State Police.
The Bethany Beach woman was taken to an area hospital where she died; the driver was not injured, Sturgis said.
Identification of the victim is pending notification to her family.
The parking lot of Walgreens was closed for about four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed this collision to contact Sgt. J. Burns at 302-703-3269.
