Peter Anthony DiMario, avid sports fan

Peter Anthony DiMario passed away after a brief illness Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

Peter grew up in Pelham, N.Y. He was born May 30, 1962, in the Bronx, to Domenica (DeVito) and Salvatore DiMario. He relocated to Dover after retiring from New York City Off-Track Betting Corporation after 29 years as a clerk and branch manager.

Peter was an avid sports fan who followed his beloved New York Mets and New York Giants. He was also a student of both the Standardbred and Thoroughbred racing industries. In 1982, Peter was on the team that raced Runaway Groom, who won the Travers Stakes and was the three-year-old Canadian Horse of the Year. Peter returned to Saratoga every summer for the racing season.

Peter is survived by his sister, Angela Armutcu and her husband Mithat of Lewes, his niece, Talia of Lewes; his brother, Salvatore and his wife Colleen of Dover; and a special cousin Michael Carrozza of Dover. He was a great friend of many, especially Joe Scalisi, Jimmy Savanetti and Freddy Mendez.

There will be a service in New York in early Spring with interment at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, N.Y., with his parents.
