Philip Anthony Bosin Jr., veteran, avid bowler
Philip Anthony Bosin Jr., 93, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
Phil was born in Harrisburg, Pa., Oct. 20, 1929, to the late Philip and Stella (Krzycyewska) Bosin. The family lived in West Leechburg, Pa., during his childhood and moved to New Jersey when he was a teenager. In the 1940s, he worked as an usher in a theater in Harlem, NYC, where he enjoyed seeing such acts as Bob Hope and Cab Calloway. In 1951, Phil joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Northern Italy as part of the peacekeeping forces. Upon returning to the U.S., he met Joan Galica at a dance at the Ivanhoe in Irvington, N.J. They married Sept. 8, 1956.
Phil started work at DuPont in 1953 and was transferred to Wilmington in 1958, where they bought a home and stayed until retirement. They raised two daughters there. Phil retired from DuPont in 1985 and went to work for the next 10 years at Ciba-Geigy in Newport.
Joan and Phil wanted to retire to the beach in Delaware and fell in love with Angola by the Bay. They built their retirement home there in 1996 and quickly became involved in community activities. Phil was involved in the men’s club The Owls, Meals on Wheels, Children’s Beach House in Lewes, St. Vincent de Paul and Casa San Francisco. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the 4th degree of Knights of Columbus. Phil and Joan were avid bowlers and participated in league bowling until their mid-80s. Their foursome, the Yups, won the Millsboro League Championship in 2015, when all four team members were in their 80s.
Phil is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Joan; his two daughters, Kathy Bosin (husband Kevin Garber) and Laurie deBrabander (husband Ed deBrabander); and his beloved granddaughter, Rachel deBrabander.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 401 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. A celebration of life will follow at Angola by the Bay Clubhouse.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, rehobothbeachfire.com.
