Phillip J. Morris Jr., DelDOT retiree
Phillip J. “PJ” Morris Jr., 80, of Georgetown, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, in his sleep in the comfort of his own home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1943, in Frankford, son of the late Phillip J. Morris Sr. and the late Lydia (Hancock) Morris. PJ retired from the maintenance department of DelDOT in 1997 after over 30 years of service. After his retirement from the state, PJ worked for Melson Funeral Services as a maintenance man for over 25 years.
PJ was truly one of a kind. He was a creature of habit, and a dedicated and hard worker. PJ had a great sense of humor and was always ready to get a rise out of someone. He served his community for several years as a fire police official with the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company. PJ was truly his happiest cutting grass on his John Deere, cruising around Sussex County in his truck, piddling in his garage, and collecting everything he could get his hands on, especially hats.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marion L. Morris; a brother, Carl Morris; and a stepson, Eddie Hill. He is survived by his three stepchildren, Victor C. Hill, Anna Jane Whaley and Bonnie Hitchens (Charlie); three grandchildren, Angel Graham (Dave) and their two children, Brody and Ellie, Christopher Hitchens (Trista) and their three children, Grayson, Brinley and Kinsley, and Kevin Hill (Elizabeth) and their daughter, Katie; and cousins, Bob and Margarete Holloway.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where friends and family may gather after 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Carey’s Cemetery, Frankford.
Remember, as PJ would always say, “Don’t take any wooden nickels.”
