Pizza Palace opens in Midway
The Pizza Palace family has welcomed an addition in the Cape Region.
Already dotting the landscape of Sussex County with locations in Millsboro, Georgetown and Milford, Pizza Palace opened its newest location in Midway Galleria Feb. 26.
General Manager Karen Diakos, who also owns Millsboro Pizza Palace with her husband, Tom, said, "It was a nice day, and we had a steady flow of people coming in, with some regulars from Millsboro."
By the Tuesday afternoon that followed, Midway Pizza Palace already had a bustling lunch crowd with nearly a dozen seated in the full-service dining room. The to-go counter swarmed with local construction workers and retailers on their lunch breaks.
"All of our customers in Millsboro asked, 'When are you going to open somewhere else?'" Diakos said. "When this location became available, they were so happy because they come from here to go to our place there."
Georgetown resident Jennifer Toggart was one of several retail workers in from her job at the QVC outlet store. Toggart said she visits Georgetown Pizza Palace at least once a week and was thrilled a new location opened close to her work.
"I am so glad you guys are open here," she said as she stepped up to the counter to pick up her lunch order. "I've been a regular since high school; the food is just great."
With the same menu as the Millsboro location, Diakos said the Midway location has hired nearly 20 local workers as employees and has brought in some of the Millsboro staff to help train and operate the restaurant.
Working since December to rehabilitate the space, Diakos brought in all-new kitchen equipment. She said she hopes to deliver the same family-friendly atmosphere and quality as the Millsboro location.
In an area where pizza is easy to find, the owner said she expects Pizza Palace to stand out for the quality of ingredients, from pizza and pasta to entrées and salads.
"We offer more than just pizza and pasta," she said."The quality is what is different about us. We only use good ingredients, and we don't go cheap.
