Plein air artist Laura Jenkins works with Worcester Prep fifth-graders

November 6, 2021

Local artist Laura Jenkins recently visited Worcester Preparatory School to give a two-day plein air presentation for fifth-graders.

Jenkins returned Oct. 25 to help students create their own watercolor paintings, drawing inspiration from the school’s garden.

“I am so excited that our students have this opportunity,” said Rebecca Tittermary, lower school art teacher. “Laura is an amazing artist, and I am so grateful that she is willing to share her talents with us.”

Jenkins is a member of the Rehoboth Art League, Ocean City Center for the Arts, Worcester County Arts Council, Academy Art Museum, Maryland Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, Plein Air Painters of Delmarva and Maryland State Arts Council.

Jenkins said she is mostly self-taught. Personal study and workshops have served to strengthen her skillsets needed to move forward and grow as an artist. Since she lives along the beautiful waterways and marshes of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, plein air painting is almost a year-round activity and serves as a classroom unto itself, she said.
