August 25, 2023

A Millsboro man faces a robbery charge after going to the Long Neck Wawa Aug. 19 to buy a cigar, then trying to leave with the entire cash drawer, police said.

Andrew Maccord, 34, went to the store on Route 24 about 3 a.m. to buy a cigar, but when the cashier opened the register, police said, Maccord tried to take the drawer full of money.

The cashier held onto the drawer, but Maccord was still able to grab an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing, police said. The cashier was uninjured.

Delaware State Police detectives identified Maccord as the suspect through video surveillance, and found Maccord at his apartment Aug. 22, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Maccord was taken to Troop 4 and charged with second-degree robbery and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $4,000 unsecured bond.
