Possums observe memory of Sept. 11

‘The Guys’ to benefit Chad Spicer Fund, Georgetown Fire Department
September 5, 2016

Possum Point Players have scheduled a memorial observance of Sept. 11, 2001, to honor fallen heroes and to benefit local ones. On Saturday, Sept. 10, 7 p.m., a special performance of "The Guys" will be presented in recognition of the 15th anniversary of those terrorist attacks.

Proceeds will be shared with the Chad Spicer Memorial Fund and the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department. Tickets are $40 and include the performance and a following reception. The special performance of the Anne Nelson drama features well-known area performers Anne Colwell and James Keegan, who appear courtesy of the Actors' Equity Association.

Director of "The Guys," Nina Galerstein said, "I saw the play many years ago and was very moved. I loved it when I saw it and even more when I read it. I think it's because the play is not just about the obvious - the terrible loss of lives in the New York fire department - but it is also about the loss of innocence, of "life as we knew it," for every single person living in New York and our country."

"The Guys" takes place only a few weeks after Sept. 11, 2001, and is based on the true life experience of a surviving responder and a journalist. Struggling with creating eulogies for eight fallen comrades, the first responder seeks someone to help him find the right words.

Galerstein said, "My wish for the audience is to not only remember Sept. 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders, but also to leave the theater being moved because this is a truly wonderful play."

The reception following the performance features refreshments provided by many favorite area restaurants including The Brick Hotel, SoDel Concepts Restaurants, The Upper Crust and Café Azafran. Each ticket includes the refreshments and a complimentary drink of choice. There will be a variety of raffle items. Proceeds will be shared with Georgetown Fire Department and the Chad Spicer Memorial Fund.

Tickets may be purchased at www.possumpointplayers.org, or by calling 302-856-4560. Performance and reception are at Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Road, Georgetown.

Possum Point Players is supported, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
