Pregnancy care center sets community event June 29

June 20, 2024

Sussex Pregnancy Care Center will host a free community connection event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 29, at 5 Burger King Drive, Georgetown.

Local agencies sharing information on the services they provide will include Amerihealth, Children and Families First/Nurse Family Partnership, Delaware Adolescent Program Inc., DHHS Bureau of Oral Health, Food Bank of Delaware, La Red, Stand by Me, Trauma Response for Youth and Ultrasound Express.

The center will provide free hot dogs and chips. Wawa will be onsite providing free pretzels and swag. Kids can receive a free goodie bag, create a craft and have their faces painted. Adults and kids can enjoy outdoor games such as cornhole and ring toss.

Car seat safety check appointments can be made with a car seat safety technician for a future date at the center. Door prizes include an infant car seat (with a required car seat safety education appointment before distribution) and gift cards to Gingham and Grace Clothing and Benvenuto. Food and giveaways will be available while supplies last. All community members are invited to attend. Due to limited parking, attendees are encouraged to carpool.

The center’s garden of hope will be dedicated to Rita Denney, SPCC’s longest-serving executive director, who retired last year after 23 years of devoted service, and in memory of Bob Burris, whose service and generosity ensured that the mission of SPCC could be carried out. While many people can be credited with the founding of SPCC, the family of Malorie Derby has honored her contribution with a plaque on the center’s memorial wall. The center’s team members are  grateful to all who have played a role in the creation and continued expansion of the ministry. For more information, call the center at 302-856-4344 during business hours of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Thursday, or go to sussexpregnancy.com.
