Preston Lee Morris, proud of his roots
Preston Lee Morris, 88, of Millsboro, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015.
Mr. Morris was born Nov. 17, 1927, to the late Edgar C. Sr. and Sarah Jane (Harmon) Morris. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by siblings Edgar “Buff” Morris and his wife Edith, Oscar “Spark” Morris, Noah “Chub” Morris and his wife Millie, Ellen Morris, Delema (Morris) Street and her husband Richard Sr., Alberta (Morris) Coursey and her husband Johnny; and sister-in-law Phyllis Morris.
Preston owned and operated Morris Piling and Logs for 45 years until his retirement in 1991. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, and a member of VFW Post 10638. Preston was also a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Millsboro, and the Nanticoke Indian Association.
He was the pillar of both his family and community, known by everyone to be an honorable, selfless and hardworking man who was proud of his roots. His excellent sense of humor and mischievous spirit is a valued trait that lives on through his children and grandchildren. God and family came first, but his passion for working in his garden ran a close second.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sylvia (Harmon) Morris of Millsboro; three daughters, Deborah Wright and her husband Danny of Millsboro, Lisa Lashley and her husband Edwin L. of Salisbury, Md., and Tanya Street of Millsboro; two brothers, Walter “Pookie” Morris and his wife Zaidee of Irmo, S.C., and Granville “Dole” Morris of Millsboro; six grandchildren, Heather (Wright) Gilberry and her husband Jerome, Hillary Wright, Kyle Harmon and his wife Cat, Tyler Street, Ryanne Lashley and Edwin T. Lashley; three great-grandchildren, Liliana Gilberry, Dominique Harmon, and Preston Harmon; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, at Harmony United Methodist Church, 27270 John J. Williams Hwy., Millsboro, where friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. for visitation and viewing. Interment will be held privately with the family at a later date.
