Promoting Delaware tourism in the mid-20th century

May 25, 2016

Memorial Day weekend has finally arrived and the holiday honoring men and women who died while serving in the military continues to also signal the traditional beginning of the summer tourism season in Delaware.

This linen postcard from the collection housed at the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library in Odessa represents typical promotional postcards from about 1950. While this one offers greetings from Laurel in Sussex County, its emphasis is on the state’s beaches and other tourism highlights across the entire state.
