I have recently taken an interest in the old city area of Lewes. It is the Fourth Street Preserve. It is 30 acres of partially wooded open space in the center of our town. It is historically the oldest deeded property in the State of Delaware.
Thanks to the present owners, we the people have a terrific opportunity to purchase and preserve the land, which will become a park and remain open space forever! What a great legacy for all of us who live here to leave to our next generation – a small piece of Mother Nature.
The city will own the property and take care of it with very minimal footprint of man visible. What is needed for this to happen is public participation.
Talk to others about it. Investigate the details first yourselves and mostly participate by donating! We currently have more than 600 residents involved, but we need more. It will be worth it in the end! The goal is doable with your help.
