Milton Elementary fifth-graders Jordynn Bowe and Kemar Davis are the latest students to receive the African American/Black Achievement Recognition Award from the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice.
Principal Beth Conaway said the students were nominated by the fifth-grade team, and both of them are attending school remotely. Teachers said Jordynn is a natural learner who is admired by her peers and enthusiastic about learning. Jordynn said she is particularly interested in math. The team said Kemar works hard, is conscientious about his schoolwork and attended the FAME summer enrichment program to improve his reading.
Each student received a $15 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth; SDARJ contributes $10 to each gift card, and Browseabout contributes $5.
SDARJ’s education committee initiated the award to recognize students who represent ideals of leadership, effort and excellence in their schools. Two students from each school in the Cape Henlopen School District will be recognized.
