June 9, 2021

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice recently honored students from Rehoboth Elementary School for their demonstration of leadership, improvement, effort and excellence.

Third-grade teacher Kristine Wood said her student Jacob Bennett loves to share his knowledge on a wide variety of topics with his friends and teachers. Jacob is enthusiastic about learning and is always up for a challenge. In addition to his strong academic abilities, Jacob is an outstanding friend to many. As a new student this year, he developed many strong friendships. Jacob said he loves math and may be interested in using those skills to build spaceships for NASA after college.

Second-grade teacher Charlene Jones said her student Leah Edwards-Hunt is an outstanding reader and writer who loves a challenge. She has made great accomplishments in her comprehension and fluency, and her creativity has allowed her to grow as a writer. Leah says she loves school, especially doing science experiments. She said she plans to go to college to study music in hopes of becoming a singer.

Each student received a $15 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth; SDARJ contributes $10 to each gift card, and Browseabout contributes $5.

SDARJ’s education committee initiated the award to recognize students in the Cape district who represent ideals of leadership, effort and excellence in their schools. A nonpartisan organization, SDARJ educates, informs and advocates for racial justice, equality and fair opportunity. For more information, go to sdarj.org.
