RAL holds opening reception for four artists

May 19, 2018

The Rehoboth Art League held an opening reception for four artists May 11.

In the Corkran Gallery, Nicholas Serratore showed his New Work and Howard Eberle showed Simplicity. In the Tubbs Gallery, Peter Treiber showed his Etheral Luminescence series and, in the Ventures Gallery, Ruri Yi presented an untitled exhibition.

Treiber said of his work, “Through abstraction, these photographs capture the drama and excitement of the vibrant and colorful public places that we all enjoy so much, creating a mesmerizing, symphonic explosion of color, light and motion.”

Yi addresses images reflected in her daily life. While looking at her surroundings, she tries to see forms, colors and surfaces. She analyzes and transforms them into varied surfaces, reinterpreting elements of the urban landscape and its in between spaces.

Serratore has been working in the pastel medium for over 25 years. During this time, his technique and style have evolved. “The more you work at it, the more you grow as an artist. The paintings are a direct result of that growth.” For this exhibition, Serratore harnesses representations of the land to demonstrate the effects of sunlight and spatial depth upon a scene.

Eberle celebrates the philosophy of Japanese minimalism in creating watercolors that fall outside of tradition in both style and execution. In this selection of new and award winning works, the artist challenges himself visually to create paintings that are understated, the goal being to refrain from adding that which is not absolutely necessary.

The show runs through June 10.
