Ralph G. Redden, former vice mayor
Mr. Ralph G. Redden, 83, of Millsboro passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Delaware Hospice Center Friday, March 23, 2018.
Mr. Redden was born March 18, 1935, in Chincoteague, VAa., to the late Walter S. and Minnie E. Gray Redden. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two sisters, Amanda Smith and Myrtle Gulyas, as well as four brothers, Herbert Redden, Paul Redden, Clinton "Skate" Redden and Johnny Redden.
Ralph graduated from Ocean City Md. High School in 1954, and then joined the U.S. Army where he served our country. He retired from the Acme Markets as a store manager where he worked for 39-and-a-half years. He attended Zoar United Methodist Church, was a former member of the Lions Club, Millsboro Town Council, former vice mayor of Millsboro where he served 12 years. He was also a member of the Delaware Campers Club. Ralph enjoyed camping. He and his wife sold their house and bought a fifth wheel camper, in which they lived and traveled full-time for 13 years. Over the winters, they had the pleasure of being "snowbirds" with close friends in Jekyll Island, Ga., and in Florida. Ralph loved his Georgia shrimp, and knew every good seafood restaurant between Millsboro and Florida. He also enjoyed boating, crabbing, watching and meeting new people. He was always able to easily strike up a conversation with anyone, even a total stranger.
He is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Dorothy Margaret Redden of Millsboro; three children, Teresa Morris (Shawn) of Galestown, Md., Ralph Redden Jr. (Beth) of Millsboro, and Wendy Mears (Jimmy) of Milford; three sisters, Vivian Collier of Harrington, Yvonne Hastings of Millsboro and Rosalee Short of Easton, Md. He is also survived by a grandson, JR Mears and his fiancé Holly Gunning as well as his "adopted family" Ralph and Cindy Rogers of Millsboro, their children who are godchildren, Brad Rogers (Jessica) and Crystal Bunting (Gage) and their children McKinlee and Bowen Rogers and Karra Bunting.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m., at Zoar United Methodist Church, 24463 Gravel Hill Road, Millsboro. Interment will be held privately.
