Red Hat Society growth continues in Delaware

Chapters open for membership application
January 4, 2020

April 26, 2020 will mark the 22nd anniversary of the Red Hat Society, an international social organization that was founded in 1998 in the United States for women age 50 and beyond.

Now open to women of all ages, the society’s main purpose is to provide women with opportunities for pleasant social interaction, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. There are more than 50,000 members in the United States and 30 other countries.

The Red Hat Society is a playgroup for women created to connect like-minded women, and enrich lives through the power of fun and friendships. Still, there are deeper, more meaningful benefits of RHS membership including powerful interpersonal connections and emotional support systems built among sisters both online and offline. They support one another in every life stage from all corners of the globe.

Through many years in Delaware, chapters have swelled and some have decreased in size due to their decision not to belong to the Red Hat Society but to venture out on their own as social groups, no longer paying annual dues to “hatquarters.” Chapter queens and members have resigned, or chapters have disbanded, but there are still active chapters looking for women who want to meet other interesting and engaging women. Perhaps some past members will rejoin and become members of a new chapter.

The RHS Chapter Evening Primroses has continuously thrived since 2013. Queen and Delaware Ambassador BJ Young is always willing to welcome RHS supporting members into the chapter. The EPs meet the last Tuesday of each month at different locations and restaurants. The chapter women come from places ranging from Dover to Lewes. The setting and theme of their meetings is determined by the hostess for that month.

There also is a Pirate Red Hat Chapter in Sussex County. It meets as the wind blows, for monthly adventures. Applications for both chapters are now being accepted for the 2020 year.
