As part of regular yearly maintenance, Red Mill Pond has been temporarily undammed to allow the water level to go down.
The pond is owned by brothers Christian and Jamin Hudson.
Christian said debris needed to be cleared out of the spillway and some residents were doing maintenance as well. The boards have been put back, so the level should start to go back up shortly, he said Jan. 5.
The 150-acre pond is centuries old and manmade. It’s located northwest of Lewes – one end visible from Route 1, across the road from Shaffer’s Service; the other end off Sweetbriar Road is a popular fishing spot. The pond is surrounded on all sides by housing communities.
