Rehoboth Art League to host exhibition receptions Sept. 27

September 20, 2024

The Rehoboth Art League will host an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27, for its new exhibitions showcasing various mediums, subjects and techniques in the Corkran, Tubbs, Ventures and Homestead galleries at 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres.

RAL’s new shows are Liminal Space: Oil Paintings by Jinchul Kim; Soundless Poem: Paintings and Ceramics by Jinsoon Oh; Fiber Arts Medley: Hazel Bradshaw-Beaumont; Wildlife and Nature Art: Works by Steve Oliver; and Captured Nature: Fine Art Botanicals from RAL’s Fine Art Collection.

The Corkran Gallery space will be shared by two complementary artists displaying their unique work together. In Liminal Space, Kim will showcase his hyper-real oil paintings that attempt to communicate to the viewer through newer languages that can embrace/unite preconceived definitions with innovative constructs. Through both ceramic pieces and acrylic paintings, Oh’s solo showcase, Soundless Poem, finds the middle ground between representational forms and pure abstract formality.

Bradshaw-Beaumont brings her three-dimensional textural artworks to the Tubbs Gallery in her Fiber Arts Medley show. Drawing inspiration from her melting pot of life experiences, Bradshaw-Beaumont is interested in conveying the connections among self, emotions, seasons, atmospheres and time of day. She’s inspired by natural elements and the materials themselves, while the patterns of landforms and the atmospheric elements also play key roles in color and mood expressed.

Oliver exercises patience and observation with the pieces featured in the Ventures Gallery as part of his exhibition, Wildlife and Nature Art. Every piece in this show can be accompanied by a short story about one of Oliver’s experiences in the field and the inspiration that led to the painting. In this work, he strives to make paintings that are interesting, accurate, colorful, and most of all, distinctively his.

The Homestead will display a collection of blooming images in Captured Nature: Fine Art Botanicals from RAL’s Fine Art Collection. Flowers and plants have been used as symbols in art for centuries, and they can represent many different things. For example, a rose can symbolize love, a lily can symbolize purity and a sunflower can symbolize happiness. By incorporating flowers and plants into their art, artists can add layers of meaning and symbolism to their work. Selected botanical works from the league’s permanent collection will represent the unique styles of this beloved subject. Following the ending of this show Sunday, Oct. 27, the Homestead will close for the winter months, reopening in spring 2025.

The exhibitions are free and open to everyone during the regular gallery hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday.
