Rehoboth Beach community shows some unity
Rehoboth Beach Main Street recently hosted its 29th annual Community Unity Dinner at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
More than 300 people turned out for the event Dec. 3, which featured an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner complete with rolls, salad, desserts, nonalcoholic beverages and an ice cream bar.
As part of the dinner, Main Street handed out two awards. Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Carol Everhart was named as 2023 Citizen of the Year and Rehoboth Beach Main Street member and event organizer Jenny Burton was received the Champion Award for 2023.
In addition to the food and awards, Santa and Mrs. Claus paid a visit, Sussex Dance Academy dancers performed a few scened from The Nutcracker, and the Cape Jazz Band performed a selection of holiday classics.
The dinner is the first of a few Main Street holiday events over the next couple of weekends. Beginning at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, there will be a holiday stroll with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Then at noon, Saturday, Dec. 16, the third annual Wreaths Across America will take place at Epworth Cemetery on Henlopen Avenue.
Except for a brief hiatus, the Community Unity Dinner has been a Main Street fundraiser since 1994. For more information on Rehoboth Beach Main Street, call 302-227-2772 or go to downtownrb.com.
