Rehoboth Beach Easter Promenade winners in 1953

March 14, 2018

Ginnie Savage Caras sent us this photo recently. Shown are winners of the Easter Promenade in Rehoboth Beach, on the Boardwalk, in 1953.

"My son, Paul Caras III, is in the arms of his grandmother - my mother - Nelda Savage," wrote Ginnie. "He won for the Best Dressed Baby - almost two years old. I don't know the other people. I believe the couple with the three children won Best Dressed Family. The lady on the end won Best Dressed Lady."

The Easter Promenade was an annual event in Rehoboth Beach for many decades, but eventually faded out in the 1990s. Easter, often thought of as the beginning of the new tourist season for the Delaware coast, comes early this year, on April 1. Easter moves around the calendar each year. It always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox - the first day of spring.
