April 12, 2023

A fire underneath a Rehoboth Beach home caused damage April 11.

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company responded to a report of smoke coming from a house at 43 Sussex St. about 6 p.m., and firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the crawl space of the home when they arrived.

There was heavy smoke throughout the interior of the home. The fire was extinguished underneath the home along with an area inside the house that was extinguished and ventilated. The house was under renovation at the time, and nobody was in the residence, officials said.

Crews remained on scene for an hour and a half. There were no injuries, and the state fire marshal’s office responded to determine the cause and origin.
