Rehoboth in Bloom steps into spring with annual dance party

Event raises money for busy planting season ahead
March 23, 2024

The annual Rehoboth in Bloom Dance Party was a celebration of green, times three.

This year, the fundraiser was held at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center March 15, the kickoff to St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

So, people not only put on their dancing shoes, they also donned their green to raise some green for the green one sees in planters in downtown Rehoboth Beach.

“This is our only major fundraiser,” said Cindy Lovett, Rehoboth in Bloom founder and event organizer. “It brings together volunteers, locals and neighbors.”

DJ Sky Brady kept the crowd on their feet all night with the best dance hits. Dogfish Head Brewing donated beer. Bin 66 provided the wine.

Volunteers made most of the desserts. But the night was all about the flowers.

Everybody got to take home a plant donated by East Coast Garden Center.

Like tulips in the spring, Lovett said costs go up every year, so the dance party is critical to help pay for the upcoming planting season.

“We buy 1,000 flowers every year. The price of soil and equipment keeps increasing,” Lovett said.

Rehoboth in Bloom is an initiative of Rehoboth Beach Main Street. Lovett said the organization has 75 volunteers.

She said they will tend to 113 planters on Rehoboth, Wilmington and Baltimore avenues this year.

Those volunteers will trade dancing shoes for garden gloves and plant this year’s flowers Tuesday, May 7.
