Rehoboth Historical Society honors St. Edmond’s

March 26, 2010

St. Edmond’s Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach has been recognized as a historical site by the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society. St. Edmond’s was built and established in 1939; the first Mass was held May 12, 1940. A special plaque of this recognition was presented Friday, March 19, to the pastor of St. Edmond’s Parish, the Very Rev. Raymond L. Forester, VF, by Paul Kuhns, president of the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society. The plaque will be permanently located near the cornerstone in the front of St. Edmond’s Church.

Others who participated in the ceremony included Rehoboth Beach Mayor Sam Cooper, Rehoboth Beach Museum Director Nancy Alexander and members of the St. Edmond’s parish history team.

This recognition is especially timely as St. Edmond’s concludes the celebration of its historic 70th anniversary. To memorialize this anniversary, a special St. Edmond’s History Book and DVD package is now available for all parishioners and visitors. St. Edmond’s and the Rehoboth Beach Museum are together planning some displays on the historical church.

The clergy and staff of St. Edmond’s, on behalf of all parishioners, extend thanks and appreciation to the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and Rehoboth Beach Museum for their recognition of St. Edmond’s.
