Rehoboth Knights of Columbus recognized as a Star Council

April 26, 2015

For the fourth time in five years, Star of the Sea Council 7297 of the Knights of Columbus has been awarded national status as a Star Council. It is the only one of the 34 councils in Delaware to be so recognized.

To achieve Star Council status, a council must increase its membership and perform at least four noteworthy projects in each of six program areas during the fraternal year: church, community, council, family, youth and culture of life.

Among the 24 local council projects that were cited as the basis for the award were holding a golf tournament to benefit homeless veterans being helped at Home of the Brave in Milford; offering a pancake prayer breakfast to raise funds for and awareness of Habitat for Humanity; co-sponsoring and providing staff and free food for the Block House Run, a track event for all physically and cognitively challenged youth in Sussex County held annually at the Consortium School in Lewes; and selling religious Christmas cards to promote keeping Christ in Christmas.

The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the world. Its principles are charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. Star of the Sea Council 7297 is affiliated with St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, where it holds its business meetings on the second Tuesday night every month. Any practicing Catholic man, 18 years or older, can become a member of the Knights of Columbus.
