The Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club welcomed John A. Nanni, Rotary District 7630 Polio Plus chair, to a recent meeting.
One of the 2 million polio survivors in the United State, Nanni spoke about Rotary’s involvement in the effort to eradicate the most feared infection of the 20th century.
World Polio Day is Thursday, Oct. 24, and Rotary Clubs around the world will be marking the day with special events and donations. Since 1985, Rotary has contributed more than $1.9 billion and countless volunteer hours to the effort. With matching funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to support the effort, incidents of polio have plummeted by 99.9 percent, from 350,000 cases in 1988 to 33 cases in two countries in 2018.
The Rehoboth Beach Rotary Club meets every Friday morning. Guests are always welcome. For information, email dejmalgail@gmail.com.
