Rehoboth student serves as WPS head of school for a day

June 10, 2024

Worcester Prep sixth-grader Alden Durrell of Rehoboth Beach acted as head of school for a day April 30. The privilege was obtained as a live auction item at the annual WPS gala in March.

In his one-day role, Alden enacted a casual-dress day for all students, teachers and administrators in exchange for a $3 donation, raising over $1,200 to be donated to the Maryland Coastal Bays Program in Berlin, Md.

Leadership meetings, classroom visits, campus tours, and security and athletic field checks filled Alden’s busy day. He also enjoyed lunch with a small group of friends in his new office.

Alden’s fellow sixth-graders were treated to donuts for breakfast and ice cream at lunch, and enjoyed a game of capture the flag during last period. Students in first to fifth grades were treated to double recess. Middle and upper school students appreciated a rare opportunity to enjoy recess during their free periods.
