Sussex County Republican Women’s Club at its Oct. 26 meeting hosted guest speaker Ashley MacLeay, Independent Women’s Forum external relations director and D.C. National Committeewoman to the Republican National Committee.
MacLeay said the core issues facing voters this November are, in order of importance, inflation, education, healthcare and crime.
“Inflation has robbed each household in America of at least $800 per month in 2022 alone,” she said, noting that price increases significantly narrow the opportunities women have to provide for their families. “Women are seeing price hikes firsthand at the pump, at the grocery store and in practically every monthly bill, and this will affect their voting choices come Nov. 8,” she said.
Regarding education, MacLeay pointed out that the very first mothers to make their voices heard at local school boards in Virginia during the pandemic began with a small group belonging to her organization, Independent Women’s Forum. Issues surrounding vaccination mandates, school cancellations and transgender policies impacting girls’ privacy galvanized these moms into early action.
Healthcare and crime also rank high on women’s list of concerns, according to MacLeay. She said American women currently spend four out of every five dollars on healthcare in America, where prices are also high and increasing.
“And then there is rising crime being recorded across the board,” she said.
MacLeay reminded her largely female audience that women are not a single voting bloc, with increasing numbers of Hispanics and African Americans opting for more pragmatic policies this year. She also noted that more Republican women are running for office in this election cycle than ever before across the country, and noted this as a huge step forward for women in America.
“We’re going to see a red wave in November,” said MacLeay.“If so, the new class will push against the current administration and all their failed policies.”
