Revival House revolutionizes Milton entertainment

Monthly event combines food, music, art and film
September 2, 2016

A whimsical idea from a few film geeks has turned into an evening out on the town as Revival House Theater at the Milton Theatre continues to attract larger audiences and participants.

The monthly cinematic event, which combines local food, live music, art exhibits and films, took off in March as a way for film lovers to find new favorites outside of the mainstream.

“We are actually a trio of nerds who just like making going to the movies an event and sharing it with as many people as possible,” said Rob Rector, chair of the communications department at Delaware Technical Community College, and one of the founders of Revival. Joined by local filmmaker Rob Waters and his wife Erin Tanner, the trio worked with Milton Theatre's Fred Munzert to showcase the event.

“It's really become this kind of organic, dynamic environment,” Munzert said. “The event is so full of life and energy.”

While some of the films are geared toward an adult audience, the most recent show, featuring the 1987 movie “The Princess Bride,” focused on a family-friendly atmosphere.

“The parents in the audience really appreciated being able to share it with their kids on the big screen, the way most of them first saw it themselves,” Tanner said. “Our overall goal is to create a unique and memorable film experience for our audience and highlight as many talented, local artists, musicians and chefs as we can along the way.”

Revival House is at the Milton Theatre on Union Street the third Thursday of every month. Munzert said shows already are planned through June 2017.

“If you're a film lover and want to test out some films you haven't seen, these are good guys to trust,” Munzert said. “It's a great Thursday night out, and it's a great place to branch out.”

Revival House returns at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, for a double feature that focuses on two 1970s cult classics: Three the Hard Way and Black Dynamite. Art and music are to be announced, but the event also features local beer and wine. Tickets, priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors, are available at www.pcade.com.
