Richard Oscar Miller, proud veteran

Richard "Dick" Oscar Miller, 90, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Richard O. Miller Sr. and Johanna Miller, Dick lived in Merrick (Long Island), N.Y., for 35 years before moving to Lewes.

Richard graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School. After high school, Richard took over his father’s store, Dick’s Auto Radio Service (it began in the early days of the auto radio industry), and became known as Dick. Later in his career, he worked for Potamkin and Penske Cadillac dealerships. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58 followed by six years in the reserves.

Dick loved gardening, photography, traveling, watching movies, especially old musicals, and in recent years you would often find him enjoying one of his favorite TV shows, “Monk.” He was also known for his amazing handiwork. Dick was a longtime member of the Masons and was a past president of the Glendale (Queens, N.Y.) Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Diane Moller. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Waltraud Miller; his daughter, Jessica Miller; his prized grandchildren, Jackson and Jemma; niece and nephew, Margaret Halpin of Delaware and Bill Moller of New Jersey; his sister-in-law, Irmgard; and nephews, Reiner and Thorsten Germann of Germany.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, March 1, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where family and friends may begin visiting at 3 p.m.

The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregivers, Angie, Sherrie, Robert and Helen for their exceptional care of Dick.
