Robert Alan Hudson Sr., veteran, touched many lives

Robert (Bob) Alan Hudson Sr., 92, peacefully passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024. A native of Lewes, he was the beloved son of the late Richard T. Hudson Sr. and Myrtle E. (Veasey) Hudson.

Robert was one of 12 siblings raised in Harbeson. He is the last surviving member of his family. Bob, as he was affectionately known, was deeply involved with his family, and cared for them immensely.  He cherished the annual Hudson-Veasey family reunions, where roars of laughter could be heard as Bob and his siblings reminisced about their childhood adventures. A beloved storyteller, he was also a two-time cancer survivor and had overcome coronary artery disease.

Bob proudly served as a mechanic in the Air Force from 1950-54 during the Korean War. He was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford and was involved with the United Methodist men’s group. Bob regularly attended Pizza King in Seaford with the Men's Group, where he enjoyed camaraderie and good company. He had a passion for gardening and loved spending time on his front porch, chatting with neighbors, and waving to passersby. He was an active member of the VFW in Seaford. For many years, Bob was deeply involved with Seaford Little League, serving in various roles, including coaching, league president, board member, and groundskeeper.

Above all, Bob cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always making them his top priority.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Hudson; his brothers, William, Frederick, Richard Jr., Francis, Edward and Joseph Hudson; and his sisters, Virginia Stripp, Mildred Christfield, Betty Shilling, Shirley Hudson and Freda Burton. He is survived by his children, Robert Alan Hudson Jr. (Daryl Ann) of Salisbury, Md., Judi Hudson Mason (Steve) of Quantico, Md., and Scott Hudson of Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by his seven treasured grandchildren, Dylan Hudson, Andrea Hudson, Alexa Hudson Reed (Drew), Stephanie Mason, Noah Mason, Cash Hudson, and Carli Hudson; and his two beloved great-grandchildren, Cole Hudson and Avery Reed. 

Bob Hudson touched many lives and left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and community.

Bob’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the memory care staff at Peregrine Senior Assisted Living in Salisbury, Md., Visiting Angels, and the team at Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation in Delmar. They are deeply grateful for the compassionate care and comfort provided, ensuring a peaceful end to his long and well-lived life.

Bob’s celebration of life will be held with visitation beginning at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, Md. The service will begin at 2 p.m.
