Robert Charles Larsen, a loyal Seahawk
Robert Charles Larsen was born Feb. 10, 1933, in New York City, N.Y., into a world completely different from today in so many ways. His father, Ejner Christian Larsen, came to this country as a child from Denmark, and his mother, Anna Davies Larsen, was from a Welsh coal mining family of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Together they had three sons, Thomas, Lorens, and the youngest Robert, all deceased. Bob always had the highest respect for his parents and brothers, and had reverently saved many photographs and mementos documenting the family history.
Mr. Larsen lived most of his life in Rehoboth Beach after his family moved from New York in December 1939. He attended and graduated from Rehoboth High School in 1951. His greatest memories were of those years playing on the football team and the lifelong friends he made out on that mud and grass field. These friends sustained him through the hard times and good, never leaving his heart. Many will remember him for his wonderful sense of humor which he had right up to his final days which he faced bravely head-on, cajoling the nurses and aides and the wonderful staff at Harbor Healthcare where he resided and died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020.
He led a full life working in the family businesses of which most notable was the Rehoboth Bowling Lanes and Skating Rink, additionally in real estate sales and as an automotive mechanic. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a mechanic and driver, was honorably discharged in 1954 to serve in the Delaware Army Reserve for eight years. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors, and had a great appreciation for a good hunting dog.
He will be forever fondly remembered by his daughter, granddaughter and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and his very special friends of the Meatloaf Gang. Go Seahawks!!
