Robert DeAngelis, loyal union man
Robert A. DeAngelis, 72, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Delaware Hospice Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Newark, N.J., Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1940, son of the late Patrick and Marie (Prete) DeAngelis.
Mr. DeAngelis was a resident of Lewes for the past nine years, coming from Clinton Twp., N.J. He was a class of 1958 graduate of Plainfield High School and was honorable discharged from the National Guard in 1965 after eight years of service. He was a Boy Scout leader and a founding father and coach of the Clinton Township Community Athletics Organization.
He was a member of the Plumbers Union Local 103, joining them Jan., 1961. They changed their union number to 24 in 1977. His total union membership extended over 50 years and he retired in 2001 as a mechanical estimator for Binsky and Snyder of Piscataway, N.J.
Mr. DeAngelis was a member of the Lewes Fire Department Auxiliary and loved fishing, boating, camping and loved to do anything outdoors. He was an avid RV traveler, was a "putzer" and loved spending time at the beach. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be truly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings and their families.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dianne E. (Kugelman) DeAngelis of Lewes; one daughter, Debora Lloyd and her husband Douglas of Teachey, N.C.; one son, Jeffrey DeAngelis and his wife Jacki of Franklin Twp, N.J.; one sister, Joan Kirner of Fanwood, N.J.; two brothers, Joe DeAngelis and his wife Dorothy of Lancaster, Pa. and his twin brother Tom DeAngelis and his wife Sue of Atlantic City, N.J.; and six grandchildren, Bethany and Matthew Lloyd of Teachey, Gavin, Brady and Carson DeAngelis of Franklin Twp. and Nicole Gentles DeAngelis of Tewksbury, N.J.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m., Monday, June at the Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. The family will greet friends beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
A second memorial service will be held at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 21, at the Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, Inc., 26 Main Street, Lebanon, N.J.The family will greet friends beginning at 7 p.m, at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
