Robert Jon Ackerman, devout Christian
Robert Jon Ackerman, 75, went home to his Lord Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Bob was born in Clifton, N.J., and it was there that he met and married his soulmate, Kathy. They welcomed two sons, Bill and Dave, whom they raised in Rockaway Twp. and Denville Twp., N.J. He retired to Rehoboth Beach in 2012.
A graduate of the New York University School of Film and Television, Bob became a successful independent producer of programs for the pharmaceutical industry in film, video, and multimedia formats.
Bob was a man of many interests. As a road rallyist, he was twice the New Jersey state champion, along with his good friend, Larry Doherty. He wrote two novels, performed in old-time radio re-enactments with the Possum Point Players, and taught a popular course for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. He was a driver for Meals on Wheels. He loved old movies, especially Hal Roach comedies. He loved to travel, taking road trips to presidential history sites and to his beloved Cape Cod, as well as traveling to Europe.
Most important to Bob were his religious faith and his family. While residing in New Jersey, he was a liturgist and member of the Staff-Parish Committee at Denville United Methodist Church. After retiring to Rehoboth Beach, he became a parishioner at Bethel United Methodist Church, where he once again served as liturgist, a member of the Staff Pastoral Relations Committee and the Miracle Singers. Bob was immensely proud of his sons, and was a devoted husband, father, and uncle.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, James, and Bertha Ackerman; and by his brother, James.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Kathleen Appleton Ackerman; and his sons, William and David.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 4, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. 4th St., Lewes.
