Robert Joseph Abel, enjoyed the outdoors

Robert Joseph Abel, 92, of Catonsville, Md., passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, at Charlestown Senior Living Community.  He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., March 3, 1928, son of the late Peter and Clara Abel.

Mr. Abel was a proud veteran who honorably served in the U.S. Army for eight years after graduating from high school.  He attended trade school for refrigeration and built a career as an engineer in that field.  Mr. Abel had many interests and hobbies.  He enjoyed the outdoors and all it had to offer, especially fishing and camping.  He found great joy in listening to music and was a talented woodworker.  Above all, Mr. Abel was a family man and cherished time spent with those he held most dear.  He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Abel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Abel.  He is survived by his son, Timothy Abel; his daughters:  Mary Meissner, Teresa Kress, and Kathleen Acosta; his seven grandchildren; and his nieces:  Geri Harlow and Mary Catherine Rubert.

A chapel committal service will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m., at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, Bridgeville.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the veterans’ cemetery chapel restricts its participants to 25, including family and staff.  All those who wish to attend will be required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing at all times.
