Robert Lee Gordon, loved cooking raccoons

February 1, 2016

Robert Lee Gordon, 74, of Dagsboro, was born Nov. 23,1941, to the late Sam Gordon and Bessie Curtis in Frankford.

Robert completed his formal education at Jason W.C Carvel High School. Mr.Gordon was employed at Vlasic Foods, where he later retired to work in his garden and tinker on his pickup truck. He just enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his children and grandchildren. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them. He was a cooking man, and loved to call his sons,  especially when he cooked raccoons. It really was something when all three of them were together.

Mr. Gordon was a very smart man. I remember when he had his first stroke. The doctor called me and told me that he would need speech and physical therapy. He refused.  I asked him why he refused, and he replied, "I can give myself therapy." The next day Mr.Gordon pulled out his dictionary and encyclopedia and soon enough he was making complete sentences. The doctor was amazed, and so was I.

Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Curtis and father, Sam Gordon; his son Nathaniel Gordon; and special friend Mae Savage.

He leaves to cherish two sons, Robert L. Wise (Odessa Showell) and Quinton T. Gordon (Lettia); one special person he called his adopted daughter and was his full-time caregiver Felicia Purnell; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a special neighbor who he loved like a son, Julio Bonilla; two special aunts, Alvis Dillard and Nellie Mae Dillard of Jacksonville, Fla.; a host of nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.

Celebration of life services were held Monday, Jan. 25, at St. Johns 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro.
