Ronald Lee Shockley, adored his children

August 27, 2021

Ronald Lee Shockley, 63, entered his eternal rest Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at Beebe Healthcare ICU in Lewes due to complications from COVID-19. He was born July 26, 1957, in Salisbury, Md., to the late Base Lane Shockley and the late Hazel Louise White Shockley. He graduated from Snow Hill High School in 1976 and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1982. Ronnie retired from Maryland DNR in 2016 after 30 years of service working at Pocomoke River State Park and Janes Island State Park. At the time of his passing, he worked at the Delaware Seashore State Park in Rehoboth Beach and resided in Lewes.

Ronnie had so many accomplishments in his life, but his biggest was being a dad. He considered himself the luckiest man to have a son and a daughter, whom he loved with all his heart. His children would consider themselves even more lucky to have called him their Dad. He was always there through the ups and downs and taught them how to truly be themselves. They cherish every moment they were able to be around him and his contagious laugh. They were his world, and he was theirs.

Ronnie had a passion for horses, specifically harness racing horses. He also enjoyed every moment that he lived and worked at the beach in Delaware, as the beach was his happy place, and he dreamed of retiring and eating oysters in South Carolina full time one day.

Although Ronnie’s time was cut too short on this earth, he will always be remembered for his kind heart, his contagious big belly laugh, his bright smile, and his loving soul.  He will be truly missed by so many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Shockley; and his sister, Betty Kelly.

Ronnie is survived by his son, Brandon Shockley; his daughter, Lindsey Shockley; Brandon’s fiancée, Rebecca Witzke; and Lindsey’s significant other, Martin Petrillo. He is also survived by the mother of his children; his brother, Donnie Shockley and his wife Janice; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at Pocomoke State River Park, Shad Landing Area, Manokin/Algonquin Pavilions, 3461 Worcester Hwy., Snow Hill, Md., Saturday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. We are asking that you please wear a mask, as we want everyone to be safe.

Ronnie was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Salisbury for many years; he cherished his close relationship with God. In lieu of donations, please send all memorial donations to the Knights of Columbus, 1501 Emerson Ave., Salisbury, MD 21801 or www.kofc.org.
