Ronald Lee Smith, auto mechanic, painter

January 3, 2012

Ronald Lee Smith, 60, departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.  He was from West Ocean City, Md., but lived in Frankford.  He was born July 20, 1951, to the late Orlando Smith and Hallie Mumford.

Ronald always aspired to be a great businessman.  He was an auto mechanic/painter and reconstructed cars and trucks before his health failed him.  He also was employed with the state of Delaware, doing the same for eight years prior to starting his own business.  He trained at Delaware Technical & Community College and then he became ASE Certified.

One could say that Ronald was a “people’s person.”  He loved being around and talking with people.  He had such a way about him that he could bring a smile to your face.  Many people have benefited from his talents in his profession.  His mission was to “do it and do it right,” no matter how long it took!  His pride and joy was seeing the beauty in a car or a truck and transforming what others saw as junk.

His ultimate love was for Jesus Christ.  He re-dedicated his life back to the lord and was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Pastor R. Hall.  Calvary was where he began his Christian walk in the 1970s under the leadership of Bishop W.G. Dukes.  This was also the church a lot of his family attended.

He is survived by his wife, Jannie Smith of Dagsboro; five children, Ronald Kellum of Greenbelt, Md., Georgeana Knapp of Milton, Deshika Smith of Dagsboro, Arnesto (Lee-Lee) Smith of Dagsboro, and Keonte Mumford of Frankford; three sisters, Gertrude Kaye Collins, of Trenton, N.J., Genevive Mumford of Jacksonville, Fla. and Denise Knowles of Newark; two brothers, Eddie Mumford of Annapolis, Md. and Steve Smith of Trenton; four grandchildren, Kayla Kellum, Karl Kellum, Antwan Knapp and Demarius Knowles; a special friend, Barbara Mumford;  in-laws, and a host of  nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at Calvary Pentecostal church Bishopville, Md.

Friends and family  may call prior to services from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. and burial service will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro at 10 .m., Monday, Jan. 9. Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home/Millsboro.
